J C Barrett Killed In Big Springs Accident
J C Barrett longtime Fleming resident was killed Thursday January 26 when a load of telephone poles slid from a flat car and crushed him as workers removed the supports. He leaves a wife three children a mother two sisters and a sister in Ellis County. Burial was at Big Springs Friday.

County Polls Rise as Tax Office Reports Inquiries
With 140 unopened letters and two poll tax receipts among them the county tax collector tallies 4705 polls issued by January 31 up 195 from 1927. Bank Robbery At Mullin Ends In Escape Toward Zephyr
At 2 30 p m Wednesday bandits robbed the Mullin bank of 1765 in cash and fled in a Chrysler Roadster toward Zephyr. Cashier R H Patterson Assistant Cashier Miss Burkett and three customers were inside when the pair of robbers forced compliance and escaped after locking the vault. Authorities found the abandoned car near Mercers Gap and lost the trail toward Zephyr.
