Inspector Begins Review of Comanche County School Aid Bids

Miss Georgia Walker, state inspector of schools, arrived in Comanche County from Mills County to start a two week inspection of all applicants for state aid. She will not fix aid amounts until all applications are evaluated. Forty seven independent and five rural districts seek state aid this year, listing numerous schools and communities across Comanche County.

Fatal Carbolic Acid Incident Claims Infant Girl

Norma Leitice Peed, seventeen months old, died after ingesting carbolic acid found in a bottle discarded in a trash pile near Sipe Sprines. Her three year old brother Deeth survived the episode with a shock. the children had wandered from their moving family home. The funeral was held Wednesday at Aelvamter, the former home of the parents.

Comanche May Have Berth in New League

Brownweel January 26 plans are in for a new league with Comanche and several Texas towns as members including Brownwoods Stentonville Dublin Golithwaite Tollinger Coleman Brady and Comanche signifying willingness to join the proposed Montreal Texas venture.

A E Hampton Stricken With Paralysis Near De Leon

A E Hampton of De Leon suffered a stroke on a hotel porch in West Sandee while en route to business. His entire right side was paralyzed and he was moved to a sanatorium. His condition was reported as serious with slight improvement later, Hampton a respected attorney and citizen.

Washington Capitol Loses Portrait Sold by Artist

An uncredited female artist created a George Washington painting displayed in the Texas executive office since 1918. The artist, never paid, has sold the work in New York after proving ownership via a former superintendent. The state never appropriated funds to purchase it, so the Capitol loses the valuable painting.

School of Missions Planned Next Tuesday and Wednesday

Mrs Ty Majors of Brownwood will conduct a school of missions not at the Presbyterian church next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Poll Tax Receipts Near Six Thousand. Comanche County Totals

By noon Thursday 5,197 poll tax receipts had been issued in Comanche County. Officials expected the total to reach about 6,000 after mail entries and afternoon payments. Last year’s county total was 5,200 with city and school taxes improving this year. County precinct totals were reported up to noon.

New Pastor accepts call to lead Comanche church

Rev. Boyd formerly of Mercules arrived in Comanche to lead the First Baptist Church. He preached twice and moved into the parsonage with his family. He asks for strong cooperation from members and citizens, pledging loyalty and service to church and town growth. He seeks cordial ties with other churches and a role in civic progress. Luker resigns as county agent to join Texas Creamery

J W Luker resigns as Comanche County agricultural agent effective February 1 to become field superintendent and extension agent for the Texas Creamery Company covering twenty counties. T B Wood of College Station meets with the commissioners to arrange a successor. Luker will remain in Comanche and plans to help with a large county fair next fall.

Adams to Speak on Superannuate Fund Sunday

Rev J R Morris announces a campaign for the superaannuate endowment fund to run from Sunday through March 16 with an offering to be made then. The Methodist church in Comanche sets a $2280 minimum quota to be raised in five equal installments. FP E Adams president of the First National Bank will open with a 11 o'clock address next Sunday morning February 3 at the church.

The Rebekah lodge at Line Springs revived after a three year dormancy hosted the Comanche degree team last Saturday. Nine initiated from a class of twenty four while W. D. Carroll served as captain. Entertainer Honey Frank McKeown to Benefit Athletic Fund

Honey Frank McKeown, a disabled former U S army cheer man, will give an educational entertainment in the high school auditorium next Monday and Tuesday evenings to raise funds for the athletic department. He can play piano, perform feats, and has taught a class of disabled soldiers at Kerrville.

County Basketball Tournament Hit Comanche Friday and Saturday

Four Thousand Egg Capacity Incubator Installed This Week

A four thousand egg capacity incubator was installed this week in the Hoff building west of the Ford garage by Miss Mary Merwin and Chauncey Merwin. The device hatches 1000 to 1200 chicks weekly and will be used by their Merwin Egg Ranch with limited custom hatching space.

Excellent Band Program Rendered Friday Night
