Lightning Burns Downing Home in Community
A modern stone home in a community was destroyed by a fire caused by a lightning strike around 11:30 PM December 8. Mr. Adams and family were indoors in the south bedroom. the blast led to initial guesses of a gas explosion, but inspection showed the butane system undamaged. The northeast part of the house burned, with all furniture lost and no injuries reported.

Chief Mechanical Force Off For Balance of Week
At end of Tuesday workday, men in The Chief’s mechanical department receive a Christmas vacation for the day and rest of the week. Except on Christmas Day, someone will be in the office to handle subscriptions and other business.
Local Firm Ships Five Carloads Of Dressed Turkeys
The Cheese and Produce Company announced by Andy H Norris that twenty five carloads of dressed turkeys were shipped this season. Cars averaged 25000 pounds with toms at 34 cents and hens at 39 cents. The 1947 Thanksgiving Christmas run was eight cars short of last year’s record.

Funeral Rites Held For Albert York
Albert Marshall York, 64, died at his Comanche home after a two month illness. Funeral services were held December 18 at the Comanche Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Woolsey officiating. Interment followed at Board Church Cemetery. He was born in Board Church, lived in Comanche County all his life, farmed there until 23 years ago, then moved to Comanche and worked with a horse team hauling and plowing for the public. Survived by wife, a son Gaston, a daughter Nelly. two children, Alvin and Inelle, preceded him in death.

Mrs. R. C. Choat, 74, died at her Comanche home December 20 after a five year illness. Services were held at Comanche Funeral Home, burial at Sid ney Pendergrass Cemetery with grandsons as pallbearers. Survived by her husband seven children and four sisters and two brothers.

Comanche Quarter Horse Show Set For January 10
Comanche hosts its second annual Quarter Horse Show at the Livestock Building on Saturday January 10. Thirteen divisions compete for about 500 in prizes with Gold and Bronze Quarter Horses awarded to champions and first place winners along with rosettes and ribbons. Earl Albin leads the Comanche Horse Breeders Association. event sponsored by the county breeders group and the Chamber of Commerce.
