Comanche Public Schools outline a two division elementary program from kindergarten to eighth grade, with a separate middle school and a comprehensive high school program. Curricular breadth includes core subjects, languages, arts, physical education, and extensive electives, with strong emphasis on citizenship and college preparation.
Comanche Indians meet Goldthwaite on Monday December 27 at 2 30 p m in the Howard Payne tournament. Maidens travel to Midway to face West in the first round Wednesday December 29 at 2 30 p m. Tournament runs Monday through Thursday with games across venues.
City of Comanche employees take a three day holiday December 24 25 and 26 with City Hall reopening Monday December 27. City Works Manager John Beaty says the Maintenance crew will be standing by for emergencies.
The Comanche Chief will close four days for the Christmas holidays. They will be closed on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Thank you for consideration and cooperation.
Paul Jeanes owner of Jeanes True Value Hardware sold the shop to Jimmy Gore after 25 years of operation. He previously managed Clay Building Materials for a decade before buying Kilpatric's Hardware in 1946 and later bought out McCullough. The Jeanes couple sold the business last month and officially retired last week.
Jimmy Gore of Comanche has purchased the Jeanes True- Value Hardware from E. Paul Jeanes. The sale, completed last month and announced this week, puts Gore, a local farmer-rancher, in charge with Robert Davenport named store manager. The store will expand inventory, add floor coverings, and offer carpet discounts while remaining a True Value and Gold Bond Redemption Center.
The Comanche Chamber of Commerce announced 1971 contest winners for best lighting and best Christmas theme. Jake Sledge at 405 N Elm won $25 for lighting. Bertha Hollingshead at 1101 N Lane won $25 for Christmas theme. Honorable mentions were N. N. Durham John Huett Raymon Lane and Victor Scott.
On Christmas Eve 1818 in Oberdorf Mohr left the room brought a folded paper to Franz Gruber who read aloud the opening lines of Silent Night. Gruber then composed the melody Stille Nacht and sang it back to Mohr. The simple hymn born in shared inspiration has since inspired many hearts at Christmas.
Rev. Sean Sweeney of Sacred Heart Church announces Masses for the holidays. December 24 at 8 30 p.m. Mass. December 26 at 12 noon Mass. January 1 Midnight Mass. Confessions available before all masses and starting January 1 at 10 30 p.m.
St Matthews Episcopal Church will hold a special Christmas Eve service at 11 00 p m with arranged music. Rev Blanchard Boyer, vicar, invites all to attend this worship event.
The Proctor Reservoir Weather Station releases a 24 hour temperature and moisture report covering the period from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m. The report details daily highs and lows and precipitation figures for the area.
The Comanche County ASC Committee approves out of county transfers by sale and by lease for 1972. Out of county transfers by sale and lease will be considered for approval on January 3, 1972. Before that date only within county transfers will be reviewed.
Banks will be closed all day December 24 to give employees more time with their families. Local banks urge customers to complete transactions early.
Thomas K. Foreman of Comanche announces candidacy for County Tax Assessor-Collector in the 1972 May Democratic Primary. He is a livestock raiser and former Higginbothams buyer, with a beauty parlor business run by Mrs. Golda Foreman near their FM Road 1689 home. Filing deadline is February 7.
Texas Coffin Company announces two promotions from its semi annual board meeting in Waco. James B. Graves of Amarillo and Henry A. Durham of Waco are named Assistant Vice Presidents effective January 1, 1972. Graves has served as Amarillo plant assistant manager and West Texas sales rep, while Durham handles Personnel and Industrial Engineering at the Waco plant.
