Comanche Freshman Tackle Earns TCU Letter

Weldon Edwards of Comanche, son of Mr and Mrs Roscoe Edwards, earns his freshman football letter with the Pollywogs at Texas Christian University. Edwards starred in the TCU Freshman victory over the SMU Colts, having previously been a three year letter man tackle at Comanche High School and twice all district.

Soil conservation aids war effort says district leader

W J Fritts of the Upper Leon Soil Conservation District urges soil and water conservation to defend land at home and abroad. He says conservation improves land, boosts yields, and supports victory and peace. Farmers may apply through district supervisors and local offices for planning assistance. Technical help comes from the U S Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service.

All 18 Year Olds Must Register Before January

18 year old youths not in the armed forces must register for military service before January 1. Mrs. Dess Callaway, secretary of the local Selective Service Board, says registrations are in the Local Board office. Few 18 year olds have registered and a penalty is provided for failure to register.

Cotton Ginned in County Reaches 1148 Bales

Up to December 1, Manche County had ginned 1148 bales of cotton, more than last year's 985 on the same date. Most crops are gathered and the Blue Gin plans to close its gin date today per owner H. L. Kight.

Sgt A C Potts Killed In Action

Hereford resident Sgt A C Potts Jr of the U S Marine Corps was killed in action in the Southwest Pacific. He had served in the Solomon Islands and was a nephew of J W Williams. His family had last heard from him there and he often visited Comanche County.

County Livestock Group Sets Junior Show Date for March 12

The Comanche County Livestock Association met with county agent and teachers at North Side Cafe to discuss industry issues. They set March 12 1943 as the Junior Livestock Show date for 4 H and FFA participants, with program rules referred to the General Welfare Committee. Breeding herds from local breeders were highlighted as top quality beef stock in the Southwest.

Dabney Brothers Return Visit to Comanche After 40 Years

Miss Maude Roberson of the Roberson Sisters suffered a broken hip after a fall at her home. An x ray at Temple hospital confirmed the fracture and she underwent an operation Wednesday morning and is reported to be doing satisfactorily.

Miss Iva Hart, local insurance agent, cites risks of storing gasoline at home. Local Man Eddie Jones Named A&M Graduate Officer Candidate

Eddie Jones son of Mr and Mrs Hardie Jones Sr of Comanche is named a Texas A and M College graduate to receive a degree January 23. After graduation he will attend an officers training school briefly and be commissioned a lieutenant in the U S Army. Jones captains his company and recently received a gold watch from cadets in a formal College dining hall. He has a strong academic record with a focus on military science.
