Edison Luker was elected to the Comanche County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for Precinct 3 during a family night supper at the Comanche Farm Bureau. J C Hyatt Bernice Stokes and Irving Dunn were appointed to seek options for a new sign for the Farm Bureau office. The group of 60 members adopted a memorial resolution for Cecil Fisher, a longtime active member.
J J Johnson aged 89 of the old Union Grove community near Round Mountain Comanche Rt 5 died at a local hospital on Wednesday Dec 14. Funeral services were held Dec 15 at 2 PM at the Comanche Church of Christ with ministers Tilden McFerrin Clarence Bryant and Otto Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Pendergrass Cemetery near Sidney. Oak Lawn Funeral Home arranged. Survivors include wife Ola Inez Ritchey Johnson a daughter Odessa J Purvis of Salem Oregon four sons Carl A Johnson Roy R Johnson Oran E Johnson and Garland P Johnson eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The Comanche County 4 H Council will hold a Christmas party on Saturday December 17 in the Grand Jury Room of the Comanche County Courthouse from 10 a m to 12 noon.
Martha Chilton of 206 North Irby has been initiated into Alpha Chi at Texas Christian University. The junior is among 57 initiates and must maintain a 3.0 GPA to qualify as part of the upper five percent of her class in Alpha Chi.
The home of Mr and Mrs Cleperne Stanley in Sidney County was destroyed by fire recently. The Sidney community presented gifts to the Stanley family on Thursday night December 8 at plays in the Sidney High School auditorium, sponsored by Sophomore and Freshman classes. Half of the proceeds were donated to Linda Stanley, their sophomore daughter.
Comanche High School Band under Jack King will perform a Christmas concert Friday night at 7 30 in the high school auditorium. Admission is 25 and 50 cents. The Junior High Band also performs and the sixteen piece Comanche Indian Stage Band makes its inaugural appearance with named members listed.
The announcement notes the marriage of Carter Williams to a partner in November 1910 at the home of Mrs. Henry Carter in Comanche Texas. Both were born and raised in Comanche, and the story identifies Mrs. Carter as the bride's mother.
The Comanche Indians lost to Cross Plains Buffaloes 51 to 37 in the opening round of the Cross Plains tournament. Roy Hufstutler led Comanche with 12 points, while Tom Davis topped the winners with 17 points, sending the Indians to the consolation bracket.
Max Dean a 1960 Comanche High School graduate aged 19 of Hasse accepted a ministry call and was licensed to preach by the Hasse Baptist Church. He serves as Training Union director, studies with Rev. Robert Paukner, will supply work at local Baptist churches, and hopes to enroll in school soon.
The 33-voice choir under Jim Kirkman will perform The Infant Holy by Louise E. Stairs for about 45 minutes at 7 30 p m Sunday evening December 11. Featured soloists include Hazel Streety Bob McCain Mrs Kenneth Froh Mrs E S Fagan and E S Fagan. Everyone is invited to attend this cantata at the First Baptist Church here.
Odell Ormsby announces a Cub Scout pack meeting Tuesday night December 19 at 7 o'clock. A Christmas tree will be present and each scout should bring a gift under 50 cents for another boy. The pack charter must be renewed and dues are 50 cents per boy for 1961.
Mrs Lelia Pearl Steele of Fort Worth widow of Bert Steele a Comanche painter will be laid to rest at Proctor Cemetery after services at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Comanche conducted by Brev Branum United Pentecostal Church pastor. Burial in Proctor Cemetery.
The Comanche Indian Maidens meet Olden Thursday at 8 in the opening round of the Indian Trails Basketball Tournament in German. Six girls teams compete, including Leon, Carbon, Gorman, and Scranton. The Maidens won the Lometa Invitation Series last week, defeating Lampasas, and have only one loss this season, a 44-42 defeat to German Pantherettes.

Carol Wilhelm of Cameron County Texas is nominated as National March of Dimes Polio Mother of the Year. She and her husband Curtis live at 1609 East Jackson with two children Eliza and Alan. She survived polio after February illness and uses a wheelchair, still managing homemaking sewing cooking and shopping with family support.
Gustine FHA honored the Tigers football team with a postgame supper after their district title clinching win over Sidney. The event, held on a cool evening in early November, celebrated the team’s season and district success.
The Membership Committee announces four new members joining the local Chamber of Commerce. Sartor Bros J L Newhouse Service Station Oak Lawn Funeral Home and Don P Chester Comanche County Farm Bureau Insurance join, bringing total membership to 129 the highest in recent years.
The Youth Department at First Methodist Church will stage a live manger scene on the church lawn December 21 to 23 from 6 30 to 7 30 each night. The public can drive by to view the live characters. Youth head Mrs E Arthur says the group will carol and visit shut ins Sunday evening and invite youth from other churches to join.
The Comanche Lions Club held its annual Christmas program Tuesday night with 61 members. President Boyd Anthony led the event featuring a turkey dinner, Christmas music by Janice Isham Gail Anthony and helpers, and a Santa act by J C Biggs. Decorations included a manger scene and greenery. Favors were candy canes and Mrs Baxter Greer was thanked for decorations. Also reported is Jesse F McCullough suffering a stroke and listed in serious condition.
The Comanche Jaycees host a pancake supper and bingo Friday December 18 at Me's Cafeteria from 5:30 pm. Pancakes are 50 cents for unlimited servings. Proceeds aid the Jaycee Civic Improvement Fund with CHS Band Concert attendees encouraged to join.
The Comanche Post Office will be open Saturday afternoon December 17 to handle the Christmas mailing rush. Postmaster Robert L. Eaton announces the office will stay open until 4 o clock to conduct all usual business.
The Christmas Decorations Committee announces judging will occur Monday in the 1960 contest. Separate divisions include club exhibits on the courthouse lawn with cash prizes of 25, 15, and 10 dollars. Residential entries earn 15, 10, and 5 dollars. Early clubs include Newburg, Stag Creek, and ESA Sorority.
