The Comanche seasonal sale blitz features Santa shows and free kid events. Local merchants tout holiday discounts on furniture, electronics, toys, and gifts with special in-store promotions and late-year store openings reflecting a robust holiday push.
Comanche Trail Council Boy Scouts of America holds 7 pm meeting at Hotel Brownwood Roof Garden. Col Homer Garrison Jr. director of Texas Department of Public Safety, will be keynote speaker at a buffet dinner honoring Den Mothers, Scoutmasters and Post Advisors serving 220 boys in 108 units across eight counties. Rio Cox hosts with Tarleton State College Orchestra providing dinner music.
The next issue of The Chief will publish on Wednesday instead of Thursday. The Christmas Greetings Edition mails Tuesday December 24 with Santa letters from area youngsters. Submissions should reach Box 494 Comanche and readers gain five days before Christmas for last minute shopping tips.

The City Launderette, owned by Clarence Schwartz, will open Monday at 906 East Central in the former Bulllion’s Snow-White Laundry site. It will offer 20c washer loads and 10c or 25c dryer slots with 24 hour access. first day will be free. Schwartz, a Comanche native, plans to move his family to Comanche once housing is found.

The Comanche Chamber of Commerce sponsors downtown and residential decorations judged Friday night with prizes for the top three in each division. First prize is 15 dollars, second 10, third 5 in both sections. Out-of-town judges will preside as colder weather slows entries but invites clubs to enter windows in local businesses. The article notes a strong pecan crop in Comanche County boosting cash flow with farm sales reaching thousands and several local firms buying pecans from growers.
In the absence of the president Ruth Robertson presided at the New Burgh Community Progress 4 H meeting. A program on Fire Prevention and Safety during the Christmas Season was presented. Ben Sears and Jack Sloan from A M weighed in on the club progress. Two judging teams for the Junior Livestock Show in January were formed.
A large crowd is expected for Santa Day in Comanche on December 18 as the Chamber of Commerce and local merchants stage the final Goodwill Day event. Santa arrives by fire truck at 2 pm, escorted by the 35 piece Comanche High School Band. Prizes totaling 370 dollars in cash plus numerous merchandise awards will be awarded, with a free movie at the Majestic Theater for children.
Ivah Gertrude Cox 58 wife of Elbert D. Cox died December 11 after a year of illness at De Leon Hospital. Funeral December 12 at First Baptist Church with Rev Henry Chambers and Rev Robert Walker officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery with Oak Lawn Funeral Home in charge. Survived by husband and brothers C B Edmondson of Abilene and others. Born June 20, 1899 in Comyn Texas and raised there, later moved to Comanche with family.
Comanche County voters endorse the 1958 Cotton Marketing Quota referendum held December 10. Oral D. Johnston reports 72 votes for quotas and 29 against, with about five percent of eligible voters participating. communities Sipe Springs and Lamkin Wil on sec 72 829 are noted in the county tally.
The Hamilton Jaycees sponsor a Turkey Shoot at American Legion Park in Hamilton on Sunday December 15 at 1 30 p m. Rifle and skeet shooting will be available. Proceeds fund Goodfellow Baskets.
The Texas Highway Department will spend 94000 to upgrade highways in Comanche County in 1958. State Highway Engineer D Greer notes this adds to regular construction and maintenance and requires little new right of way. The commission allotted 20 million to 144 counties for 1958 road work including shoulder widening and resurfacing on U.S. 67 from Comanche East City Limits to Erath County line.
A Notre Dame victory over SMU saw the Irish score 54 to 21. Spectators included Mr and Mrs Boyd Anthony Mr and Mrs Earl Oden Mr and Mrs Ira Clemons Pat Cagle Floyd Prather and son Buddy James Wilkerson and son Jimmy and Dirk Jolink.
Abilene's Dallas Hansard and his family spent the weekend in town with local acquaintances, seen at various venues during the stay.
