City Schools Announce Two Week Christmas Vacation

City schools will have two full weeks of vacation during the Christmas season per City Superintendent J. D. Bramlette. Dismissal is Friday afternoon December 20 at 4 o'clock with classes resuming Monday January 6 at 9 a.m. Most lower grades hold Christmas programs in the afternoon before dismissal.

Farm Boys Show Big Profits From Melons and Berries

J A Barton reports 4-H club results with acre plots yielding profits per acre and examples from Amond Carleton Eldon Starks Foley and John. Carleton mined 262 gallons of black seed melon juice at a cost and profit details. Starks earned profit from melons. Foley compared with father’s lower yield. John describes planting and cultivation methods and sold 580 melons for a profit of 28.05.

Runaway Car Knocks Down Boy In Brownwood Street

Burnell Norwood aged 17, son of T A Norwood, was treated by a local physician and later admitted to Brownwood Hospital after a runaway car knocked him down and dragged him across the street in front of the Frank Phifer Service Station. The incident occurred while Logary Williams was cranking another car and the Williams car rolled in gear, striking Norwood before an obstruction halted it.

Black Named Centennial Commission Leader for Exposition

George B. Black former county commissioner and postmaster has been appointed to the Texas Centennial Commission. He will oversee the Indian and Ex Ranger Department at the Exposition and travel to Oklahoma to hire thirty Indians for a six month placement. They will live in wigwams on the fair grounds and wear native costumes. Black will also coordinate the Texas Ex-Rangers Association exhibit at the World’s Fair.

Changes in 1936 Cotton Contract Details

The Extension Department of A. and M. College outlines major 1936 AAA cotton contract changes. Four year coverage, base acreage reduced from 45.5 to 44.5 million acres, 30 to 45 percent reduced production for 1936, five cent per round or eight dollar sixty per acre benefit, and altered sharing percentages for sharecroppers and tenants. Eligible voters must sign contracts. community committees elected by association members, with 100 percent support urged.

Mrs D T Long of Comanche died Friday at 5 15 am at her home. Funeral Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev Len Dalton and Rev A E Willson. burial in Shiloh Cemetery. Hunters Prohibited From Killing Game On Posted Property

Texas hunters must not shoot across fences into posted ground. Attorney General Harry Pollard ruled that a hunter in one pasture who shoots a deer on posted land and crosses the fence to retrieve it trespasses beyond his rifle’s shooting limit. The opinion suggests modern deer hunters could trespass a mile or more into forbidden territory.
