Local merchants in Comanche promote furniture, used cars, flowers, jewelry and baking needs with Christmas specials. Ads tout savings at Higginbotham Furniture, Arthur's Olds, Isham's Flowers, Dur ns Pharmacy, McCullough-Jeanes, and Charlie Taborall TV Cable.
The Braves win their second tournament, beating Cisco 58-39 in the finals. Desdemona, led by Graves and Norris, contributed strong post play and balanced scoring as Scott and Donnath updated totals with 8 to 9 points.
County Agent Angus Dickson announces a double header income tax clinic in De Leon and Comanche. Texas A&M Agri Life Specialist Billy Freeman reviews changes affecting farmers and ranchers, with private consultations after sessions. The De Leon session runs 1 30 to 3 p m in the Chamber of Commerce Building and the Comanche meeting 7 30 to 9 p m in the County Courtroom. Copies of the 1965 Farmer's Tax Guide will be available.
The 52nd District Court has summoned a group of jurors for Monday December 14 to hear both civil and criminal cases. Names include Reginald Waggoner of Comanche, G R Ledford of De Leon, Ladoutt Northcutt of Comanche, Robert Kay of De Leon, and many others from Comanche, De Leon, Dublin, and surrounding areas.
The Comanche Chief will publish on Wednesday December 16 one day earlier to mail ahead for Christmas shopping. The following week the Christmas greeting and last minute shopping edition will mail Wednesday afternoon December 23 with Santa letters and timely features.
Fort Worth Star-Telegram writer Kellam visited Comanche to cover duck hunting prospects at Lake Proctor. He rode with volunteers, observed a foray, and noted hunters planning future trips while teammates recall tougher days and ice cold retrieves. A portable blind is being built for Lake Proctor.
On Monday night December 14 the Comanche Indian Concert Band and Junior High Concert Band perform their annual Christmas Holiday Concert at the Comanche High School Auditorium. Judy Jarratt reads a festive story and the junior high band offers a Latin flavored mute sextet. Program starts at 7 30 with tickets available from band students or at the door.
Comanche high school basketball teams schedule a busy slate from December 10 to December 19. The Maidians, coached by Roger Oliver, play in Granbury and Brady before Gatesville. The Indian cagers, under Russel Berry, meet Brady and Gatesville with Brownwood and Santee tournaments on the horizon. Braves coach Pete Hebby fields Gatesville here, while The Graves head to Gustine tournament.
The 30th Annual Comanche County Livestock Show invites over 200 head from Comanche DeLeon Gustine Newburg Proctor Sidney and Soda Springs in eight departments Market Steers Lambs Swine Beef Heifers Breeding Sheep Goats Ewine. Entry blanks available through Vocational Agricultural Instructors 4 H Adult Leaders Show Officials and County Extension Office. Deadline is December 15 with fees mailed to Comanche County Livestock Association Box 342 Comanche Texas 76442.
W L Wallace of Gorman won Crant Champion and Champion In Shell with his Mahan entry at the 4th annual Comanche County Pecan Show held in Gustine. The event drew 159 entries and honored multiple growers with top shells, kernels, and weights.
Don Parks, a Comanche High School sophomore, was chosen to serve as a page in the Texas House of Representatives in Austin for part of the 1965 session. Rep. Barnes notes the post offers education in Americanism and democracy, with Parks remaining enrolled at school and receiving tutoring when not on the floor.
John W. King Comanche County Service Officer says he will operate in the County Courtroom on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the rest of December and all of January. Veterans needing assistance are urged to call on those days.
Euvell Arthur, Brownwood District Methodist Men director and Comanche car dealer, attended the Texas Lay Leadership Clinic in Austin on December 6 and 7. Eighty four attendees from across Texas, including eight Indian delegates from Anadarko, met at the Villa Capri Motel for workshops led by Chicago laymen. Arthur praised the program and predicted benefits for each represented church.
Judy Fleming reports the Pecan Bake Show in Gustine on December 5 with 18 entries. Judges were Mrs. Gene Gilbreath and others. Winners span Cookies Candy Nut Bread Pres Cakes and divisions for Adult and Junior with multiple named winners.
Gustine hosts a three day basketball tournament December 17 to 19 with girls and boys divisions. Opening games include Sidney vs Dublin at 1 15 pm on Thursday 17 in Gustine. Trophies for first and second place and all tournament teams will be awarded on December 19.
Mrs. Euell Arthur was in Fort Worth last weekend to attend a Texas Heart Association board of directors meeting.
