City School Board eyes tax free gymnasium for Coman
The City School Board announces a plan to build an eighteen thousand dollar gym for Coman without tax increases by using a federal grant of over eight thousand dollars and a ten thousand dollar bond issue. Bonds would be bought by the government at four percent for twenty years, lowering annual payments. The current one dollar school tax would shift from maintenance to bond payments, and the facility would also house the agricultural department. First Cotton of the Season Ginned in Comanche
Comanche residents delivered the season’s first cotton on Monday August 26 1935 with two bales grown by John Smart and R R Richie. The premium of about $50 was split evenly. Smart’s bale was ginned at Rauhut Gin and Richie's at Red Gin, both sold to Sherwood McDonald for 11 cents a pound.

Say County 3 Dues 10 Remain Legally Dry
Comanche County will stay legally dry after the Dean Law was repealed in the election. Sheriff J H Reese and County Attorney Co C Hampton say local option laws remain in force unless repealed by the Legislature. Since the county is dry, no precinct may vote on liquor legalization unless the county repeals its local option law. Local officers will push Dean Law enforcement pending possible new legal clarifications from a September 16 special session.

Edith Haworth Found Dead In Gas Asphyxiation
The body of Edith Stowe Haworth 53 a playwright whose works traveled to London and Mexico was found Tuesday morning in a gas filled bathroom at her home by neighbors. A coroner jury ruled death by self asphyxiation. A note named George Smith of Comanche as executor and directed notifying a friend in Clyde New York. A dated June 1 will left personal and household property to local friends. The deceased widow of A R B Haworth had traveled widely in Mexico for material. She had collaborated on songs with Mrs. W D Carroll of Comanche.

Allen Named District Attorney by Gov Allred
Harold W. Allen of Hamilton was named by Governor Allred to fill the unexpired term of Tom F. Reese as District Attorney for the 52nd Judicial District covering Comanche Coryell and Hamilton Counties. Reese resigned to join the Treasury Department in Dallas. Allen, 27, is the youngest DA candidate for the district and is a University of Texas graduate. Reese began duties in Dallas last Thursday. Also notes road work: asphalt paving on Highway 10 in Comanche begins today from the Indian Creek Bridge west to the D Isham farm, marking the county’s second hard surfaced street and a future plan to surface the entire county route.
