Records show 2878 farms in Comanche County with 2250 growing cotton. Of these, 1725 are signers and 527 non signers. Total cotton acreage is 46,681 with 7500 bales expected, price around 12 cents. Estimated county return about 500000 dollars in 1936, up from 175000 in 1932.
Twenty years ago in Comanche the first bale of cotton was sold for ten cents to the Comanche Mercantile Company. a premium of 14.75 was raised. Also noted: L. McBrayer Jr., 11, killed by an auto in South Main. coroner rules accidental death. F E Adams named bank president, succeeding W H Fidleman. Mary Riley and G Nell from Gonzales visit Luling. Baptist Sunday School attendance noted. Rev Curlee and family given purse and San Francisco Exposition vacation. Additional items cover Ford runabouts, a Brown County court fine for whipping a boy, Dublin city lights retention, marriage licenses, and a Jersey man jailed for shooting at a dog.

Miss Lennie Merle Walker of Proctor is scheduled to receive a Master’s Degree at UT during the summer session, Monday night. She earned a B A from Baylor College Belton and taught at Nocona High School last year. She will teach next session at the Masonic Home in Fort Worth.
Gayle Atwood of Miners Wells and Clive McCollum plan a reunion for the 1913 Comanche High School football team with the faculty and athletic council. The gathering is set for Sunday and Monday November 10 and 11 at Mineral Wells with most addresses secured. The Crazy Hotel and Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce offer cooperation.
The sample ballot presents votes on three amendments including a state old age assistance plan up to fifteen dollars per month and accepting federal support. It also includes a proposal to allow temporary commitment of mentally ill non criminals by county court without jury trial and a repeal of statewide Prohibition with local option.
By J. D. Bramlette quoted as superintendent of Comanche City Schools the article outlines a move to a new residence at the Goosby place. The Bramlette family Mrs Bramlette Jo James and Jane anticipate settling in with furniture arriving by truck. Glenn Frazier joins as business administrator and will teach bookkeeping commercial law business arithmetic physics.
Cotton tax exemption certificates for 1935 will be distributed the week of August 26. Tom Worth and County Agent J. A. Barton say five distribution sites reduce crowding and bring certificates nearer to farmers. Locations include Proctor’s August 26, Gustine August 27, De Leon August 28, and Sidney August 29 with morning to afternoon hours.
The director of School Census John Olsen with the State Department of Education approved Comanche County census rolls listing district totals for Beattie De Leon Gustine Proctor Sidney Sipe Springs and Comyn independent districts. The scholastic population totals 4656, per County Superintendent B Ray McCorkle.
A large Severn Comanche County delegation visited Austin to urge start of Highway No 36 from Comanche east to the Hamilton County line. 25 from Lamkin 40 from Gustine and five from Comanche attended. Henry Hines asked for more information to be given to Division Engineer Leo Ehlinger and promised to push to begin work promptly.
The Cunningham Reunion Grounds eight miles south of Comanche on Mercer Creek near the Pecan Belt Highway may become a state park. At a recent reunion a resolution offered the three acre site for that purpose. A committee including George Cunningham Austin Merk Skinner Odessa and Dave Cunningham Houston will confer with the State Park Commission which has shown interest.
In Comanche County, over half the poll tax payers are disqualified, limiting turnout to about 2500. Seven proposed constitutional amendments include prohibition, old age pension, and free text books for private or church schools. Voting locations are Court House Annex and Adams Building, with 17 absentee ballots reported to Monday noon.
An automobile stolen from E. L. Dillingham of Comanche was recovered the same day abandoned on Highway 10 near Stephenville. The 1929 remodeled Chevrolet roadster was parked by the D. Isham farm two miles east of town. Dillingham reported the car missing to Sheriff J. H. Reese and Stephenville police, but the thief or thieves had escaped.
