Comanche School Attendance Figures Released

Superintendent H.R. Jefferies released school attendance totals for the first week of the term. Elementary grades show 491, Junior High 292, and High School 355, with 1138 students enrolled overall versus 1149 a year ago.

Gospel Meeting To Begin Sunday At North Austin Church

School Budget Set At $775 192 For 74 75

The School Board approved the 1974 75 budget at a special hearing with three attendees. Expenditures total 775 192 while revenue is 820 005, based on 508 791 from state and 311 214 locally, at a 1.18 tax rate on 27 271 750 valuation. The budget is 71 000 higher than last year due to salary and inflation costs, with state revenue up about 60 000 to offset expenses, per H R Jefferies.

Odell Ends 50 Year Texaco Career In Comanche

Jess V Odell of Comanche retired July 15 after a 50 year Texaco career as a deliveryman salesman and service station worker. He started in 1924 for O H Donaho and later worked for H R Jones before joining Dudley Bros in 1937. Odell recalls mud roads Model T deliveries rooftop loads and a near catastrophe on a flooded crossing. He will turn 82 in October and plans to stay active in the community with his wife Sister Williford.
