Pettit urges Comanche car owners to secure titles now

Youth Arrested in De Leon Cash Theft Case

Bob Littlejohn of Comanche and De Leon was arrested in Fort Worth for stealing 287 dollars from Ralph Carnes the previous Sunday in De Leon. Seized 175 dollars, a suit of clothes, and a watch bought with the money. He faces jail in De Leon and is also wanted in California for Army desertion and forgery charges.

No Social Tax On Farm Labor In 1940 Ruling

The Department of Internal Revenue ruled that labor on farms operating hay balers threshers hay mowing or grain combining is agriculture labor and non taxable for social security. Gin employees actually in ginning cotton are also exempt. Refunds allowed for taxes paid after January 1 1940 by applying to IRS Dallas Texas.

Log Cabin Convention Set for Beattie August 31

The Log Cabin Convention holds its second annual meeting near Beattie on Sunday August 31. President R F Haddox invites all members neighbors and friends to the old Beattie homestead of Uncle Dick Fendrick bringing basket lunches for the noonday meal. Last year’s display of antique articles is to be repeated with relics and items of interest. An afternoon round table on county early days and an informal program are planned.

Beattie School To Open September 3

Beattie School will open September 3 per Superintendent J E Lightfoot. Teaching staff includes Mr and Mrs Lightfoot H C Dean Jewell Halbrooks and Lois Farrow with one vacancy. A program at Beattie auditorium on the third features Gus Foster and his Texas Round-Up to aid the PTA with a small admission fee.
