Captain Bert M. Carleton son of Mr and Mrs Warleton was decorated with the Silver Star for his role in flying the evacuation of nearly 10000 wounded soldiers and refugees from Burma. The award was announced by the War Department at Army air headquarters in India. Carleton a 1940 Kelly Field graduate was among six Kelly Field fliers honored.

Indians To Open 42 Grid Season With Stephenville

Sugar Stamp 8 Extends Five Pound Sugar Allowance
The Office of Price Administration announced in Washington that sugar ration stamp No. 8 will be good for five pounds of sugar from August 23 to October 31. The basic ration remains one half pound per person per week, but larger purchases are allowed to move five 10 and 25 pound packages. Stamps 6 and 7, each for two pounds, may be used until August 22, with stamp 7 providing a two pound bonus.

Thief Strips Car In Sidney After Garage Break In
A thief broke into Postmaster Byron Lusk's Sidney garage Sunday night, forced the car lock, then drove the 1936 Ford four miles east on the Comanche road and removed tires tubes and wheels. Tires were under 3 000 miles. Sheriff Wid Spivey reports officers are investigating the case.

Immediate classification of Fifth Registration registrants who have reached age twenty was announced by General J Watt Page. Local boards statewide are to process all twenty year olds from the eighteen to twenty group, about 132000 Texas men, under the current Selective Service rules. Boy Dies Day After Truck Accident Near Comanche
L. D. Polston four, son of Lloyd Polston of Chicago and Marie Polston of Houston, died at a Brownwood hospital after being struck by a Fort Worth Linen Supply Co truck in Comanche. He was en route for a cold drink with neighbor Loreane Walls when he ran into the path of the vehicle. Funeral services were held at the Comanche Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. L. D. Polston was born in Comanche February 23, 1938.
