Democrats Poll Heavy Vote in July Primary

In the Democratic primary on Saturday more than 700 000 votes were cast for the governor race with Robertson leading Ferguson second and Lynch Davidson third in the tabulated count through Wednesday night. Other statewide races show Miller leading for lieutenant governor and Moody, Ward, Wall, and Melson in key attorney general and railroad commission contests. Runoffs loom for sheriff and county offices as tabulations continue.

At the Pecan Growers convention in Fredericksburg a resolution endorsed a highway from San Antonio north via Fredericksburg Llano San Saba Goldthwaite Comanche to Eastland connecting with the Bankhead highway. It would be designated the Pecan Belt route to serve the world’s finest pecan producing belt and southern beauty. It urged the road become one of the state’s great tourist corridors.

Sunday School Classes Organize Into a Club

The junior and intermediate Sunday school classes met with James Holmes and formed a club called the Thigs Teakers of Merriment. They planned to dress 12 dolls for mission workers and elected Janet Hermes president Judith Clarke secretary treasurer. Meetings will be at a member’s home and banana cream was served after the meeting.

John S. Devitte dies in Brownwood at age about 69 or 70. He lived in Brownwood most of his life and was noted for honesty and uprightness. He leaves a wife five sons one daughter and a large sorrowing family. He was member of Central Methodist church and Knights of Pythias. Funeral held Saturday at 4 pm with Rev Baldridge and Rev Smith officiating burial in Greenleaf cemetery.

Mrs Harriet Thomas wife of Dr L B Thomas died at home July 25 1924 after two weeks illness. Born November 19 1874 in Liberty Texas she moved to Comanche in 1880s. Jamie Heron to Speak in Comanche at Luncheon

Brownwood Postmaster D. P. Johnson Dies at Home

D. P. Johnson an influential Brownwood postmaster and past Grand Master of the Texas Masonic Grand Lodge died at his home on ISG Vincent Street after a stroke last week. D. Cotten formerly of Comanche and once living in Hasse died at Brownwood July 16 at age 45. He worked the carpenter’s trade for several weeks and is survived by his wife and two children living at Quanah.

Mrs. W. J. Roe Passes To Her Reward

Sarah Ann Trant born in Henry county Alabama on June 26 1841 migrated with family to Dale Coryell Hamilton and Comanche counties Texas and lived in Comanche from 1896 until her death July 22 1924. She joined the Christian church in 1878 and was known as Aunt Sarah or Grandma aiding the needy. Survived by her husband W J Roe two children Mr Roe and Mrs Azalee Norridan two grandchildren.
