Farmers Receive Second Batch Of Soil Conservation Checks
The County Soil Conservation Association Treasurer Tom Wortham reports the second batch of Agricultural Adjustment Program payments totaling 42,176.90 plus earlier 4,703.67 for Range Improvement, bringing total disbursements to 46,880.57. The senior class at Comanche High School announced the production staff for June In January. The play will be held Tuesday April 26 in the school auditorium with admission 15 and 25 cents. William Griffith known to local officers was arrested Friday at relatives north of Comanche on a felony warrant from California. He is accused of raping an eleven year old girl in Brawley, daughter of his companion here. Sheriff Wid Spivey jailed Griffith for California authorities who returned him to El Centro for trial.

Central Texas Singers Convene in Stephenville Park For Annual Session
The Central Texas Singing Convention begins its thirty eighth annual session in Stephenville City Park on April 16 and 17. Secretary C E Skiles says visitors from across Texas will attend with stamps and well known singers and quartets expected from all sections. The session runs 2 30 PM Saturday to 4 00 PM Sunday. Comanche County is part of the fourteen county Central Texas district.

Unique Musical Program At CHS Tuesday Night
Comanche High School presents a joint program by the Public School Music and Instrumental Departments on Tuesday evening April 19. The program features the Boys Glee Club Girls Choral Club Grammar School Choral Club Ward School Choral Club Senior Band Stage Band and various solo numbers plus tap dancing accordion solos and the Swing Sextette. The event starts 7 45 pm and lasts about 75 minutes with admission 10 cents for adults and 5 cents for children.

Improvements Continue On West Seventh Street Homes
Co. P. St. Clair completed major upgrades on his West Seventh Street residence including a new roof and interior redecorating. He also remodeled the former Clay Frost house on Dublin Street now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Gilliam. Mrs. J. W. McCollum and Mrs. W. L. A Band Mothers Club was organized at Comanche High School on Tuesday to sponsor activities for the school band directed by Pat Howard. Livestock Committee Plans 4 H and FFA Show for 1939
The Chamber of Commerce livestock committee met Tuesday night and decided to hold the Fourth Annual 4 H and FFA Call Show in Spring 1939 with date to be announced. A three member subcommittee was appointed to finalize details. They discussed expanding stock. the spring show to calf lamb and pig classes, with a larger stock show in early fall linked to a county fair. Ira Clemons, owner of the lighted field, announced the soft ball season would open in Comanche on Monday May 2.
