Mil k Production in Comanche Area Grows Interest in Ship-Load Plans

A Frisco Railway survey shows ten miles around Comanche could produce enough sweet milk for three carloads weekly. Lions Club and J R Barry push marketing plans to ship whole milk if producers cooperate. Currently Comanche ships 250 gallons of butter fat weekly and sour cream remains the main product. A thermos-like car from Missouri brings four cars of whole milk into Dallas at high cost per gallon. C. O. Moore, president of Tri Cities Gas Company, reports last week’s deal absorbing the Can Oil and Gas Company assets in Rising Star Cross Plains and Pioneer. The expansion brings seven local towns served with plans to franchise more towns this year and to supply gas to every home that desires it.

Great Atlantic and Pacific opens Comanche store with local managers

The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company opened a Comanche store with W R Odom of Fort Worth as manager and R L Campbell of Comanche assisting. District Superintendent Steen and H R Nowlin supervised the opening as part of a Texas expansion plan. A campaign to boost subscriptions runs with a race for points and various prizes, ending with a closing ballot and prize distribution next week.

James W. Cochran, principal of Comanche High School, resigned effective last Saturday and returned to his home in Brownwood. Mrs. Tom F. Reese was elected to succeed him for the remainder of the term.

Water Commissioner S. S. Payne Will Bonner and Kyle Payne traveled to Glen Rose Monday bringing back about 100 Black Bass released to stock Lake Eanes. The fish were donated by I. E. Daniels who runs a Glen Rose swimming pool and pledged to provide more bass to support two years of good fishing. C. E. Straley attended the Fort Worth Lumbermens convention. W. D. Sunday Fort Worth Star Telegram covered a Briggs Texas turkey weighing 10 inches around and 7 inches across in a claim of one of the world’s largest. Mr and Mrs Tom Mazurek displayed a turkey egg measuring 7 by 9 inches, described as the largest the editor has ever measured though not claimed to be the region’s largest.
