Dr. J. Hstill Jones leads revival from April 13 to 20 at First Baptist Church. Jones, Oklahoma Baptist University and Southern Baptist Seminary graduate, is pastor of Thomson Georgia church and a seasoned New Testament Greek professor and expositor. He will bring engaging scripture messages.
The Crusade of The Americas revival comes to East Side Baptist Church Comanche from April 13 to 20 with Rev W H Caill Heiliger as evangelist Russell Nance directing the singing Mrs Maudie Creek as pianist and daily services at 10 mornings and 730 evenings Everyone is invited to attend and hear the Gospel preached says Rev Allen J Owens pastor
Mt Pleasant Baptist Church will start a youth led revival Friday April 11 with services at 7 30 p m through April 18 The revival features speaker Bruce Myrick a Howard Payne University senior and Allen Wallace also of Howard Payne directing music Public invitation extended by Rev Melvin Guthrie pastor and church members.
Colonel Wilson F Speir of the Texas Department of Public Safety reminds Texas motorists that five days remain until the April 15 deadline for vehicle inspections. Cars trucks and some trailers must be inspected at approved stations for a 1 75 fee plus any station charges. Mechanics check brakes lights rims wheels horns wipers mirrors steering and front seat belts where installed. There are 5466 licensed inspection stations statewide.
The Sidney School will hold a bake sale in front of Higginbotham's in Comanche on Saturday April 19. Proceeds likely support school activities and student programs.
Sidney Sidney Baptist Church announces a spring revival on April 11 12 and 13 with evangelist Everette Abraims from Ohio who formerly followed the Jewish faith. Services begin at 7 30 p m Friday and Saturday with a youth fellowship after the Saturday service. Sunday services are at 10 a m and 7 p m Pastor Ralph Thompson invites all to attend.
Dr James B Henderson executive director of the Texas Animal Health Commission announces a Modified Certified Area certificate recertifying Comanche County for three more years ending February 14 1972 The certificate allows beef cattle to move to other Modified Certified Areas without retesting Only 10 of 3153 US counties remain not in the eradication program with nine in Texas and one in Florida Keeping Comanche County certified enables outside sales of county cattle
The Comanche Jaycees nominate officers for the coming year. candidates include Bill Kendrix for president Jack Byrd and Ronnie Boston for 1st vice president Bo Elrod and Paul Ray McKinzie for 2nd vice president Ronnie Boston Elton Swindle Stanley Swindle for secretary treasurer Harold Adcock as inter club director Stanley Swindle for reporter and Larry Keith Connie Keith Carroll Jones and A I Davidson Elton Swindle and Paul Ray McKinzie for board of directors Nominations close and election set for April 15.
The Heartland Life Insurance Company stockholders gathered at the Comanche home office on April 9 for the annual meeting. President Tom Beene reported growth and bright future prospects. Directors nominated and elected included Beene, Porter Franks, Jim Roberts, and others from across Texas.
Horace J Carter longtime operator of a motor vehicle body repair shop in Odessa has purchased the Benge Body Shop Fort Worth Hwy Comanche and will take charge Monday April 14 Carter who was reared in the Hazel Dell community Comanche County will operate his Comanche firm under the name Carter Body Works No 2 Associated with Carter in operating the body works in Comanche will be his son Jimmy Carter engaged in a similar business in Dallas
David Beene led a five candidate slate for the local school board with 153 votes, edging Eldon Tupin at 150. Winners were sworn in at the Monday night meeting. other candidates included J. D. Warren 111, Les Strawn 89, and W. N. Gleaton 81. In Gustine, Brent Daniels topped the Gustine School Board race with 143 votes, Kenneth Burks 6, Wayne Adams 78, among others. Sidney School Board saw Joe French 42 and Howard Wilson 22 re-elected. write-ins Thomas Connally 20 and D. D. Kinsey 2 votes.
In Comanche County Justice Precinct No 4 local option voters cast 128 for and 117 against legalizing all alcoholic beverages for off premises sale. Of 294 registered voters 245 participated. An official count and possible court challenge loom as 28 ballots were challenged by watchers.
The School Board canvassed trustee results naming David Beene and Eldon R. Tupin winners. Parker was reelected president with L. L Dukes Jr. as vice president and Wayne Stewart as secretary. They set the 1969-70 calendar with August 25 opening and May 19 1970 last day.
Governor Preston Smith signed a proclamation in a Capitol ceremony with Texas Crusade Chairman Darrell Royal and Dr. Hanes H. Brindle y of the American Cancer Society witnessing. Comanche County units designate April 22 as Crusade Week with a planning meeting on April 17 at 10 a.m. in the Texas Power and Light Hospitality Room Comanche.
Comanche hosts the annual Redskin Relays with over twenty teams including Albany Haskel De Leon Santa Anna Round Rock San Saba Mason Goldthwaite and more. Key events feature a fast Mile Relay led by Round Rock and races between Comanche’s Jimmy Armstrong and Round Rock’s Floyd Campbell in the hurdles.
Farmers were reminded that the no grazing period for land diverted under the 1969 feed grain and wheat programs begins May 1 and lasts five months through October 19. James S. Couch explains participants must not graze or harvest on diverted land during the period, or risk reduced or lost payments. About 250 county producers enrolled in the 1969 programs.
The Indian Maidens welcome Division A Llano Stevenville and Comanche with Division B teams Mason Blanket Lometa Rising Star Gustine Priddy Cross Plains Santo Goldthwaite Gorman Brock Mullin Rochelle. Events start at 2 pm with prelims in field events and 3 pm running events. Final at 7 pm with trophies at 6 40.
All three city officials seeking re election won easily as no opponents stood. Wm R Jones led with 81 votes, Mayor Gyale Pirkle had 80, and Joe Waring 79. There were no write in votes cast.
The First Baptist Church of Comanche builds a $290000 facility with Shuford Farmer as architect and Rose and Sons Inc as general contractor. Memorial gifts fund pulpit, table, stands and sound system along with stained glass, pews, piano and furnishings, with a committee listing donors and a cornstone record plan.
