Brownwood man charged in attempted incident with young girl
B. B. Chumbley an employee of twenty years at the Santa Fe yard in Brownwood faces charges in Justice Court for an alleged attempted criminal incident against a Coggin Ward School student. An examining trial set bond at 7500 dollars after police say he picked the girl up in his car on March 15 and drove toward Second Street before returning her to school. A second girl, age nine, reports hearing the attempt and fleeing.

Youth Charged In Extortion Plot Near Comanche
Luther Sliger, 23, farm youth, faces a charge of threatening extortion after confessing to writing a note demanding 100 dollars and throwing it onto the porch of the Anderson sisters five miles east of Comanche on Highway 36. The incident prompted police to follow footprints and arrest Sliger, who is held on a 2000 dollar bond awaiting grand jury action at the April 19 district court session.
