County awards printing contract to Colville Examiner
The Stevens county board of commissioners awarded county printing for the year starting July 1 to the Colville Examiner the lowest bid. A $1000 bond was posted and the Examiner becomes official paper and printer. Bids opened Monday. Reveille and Springdale Reformer also submitted bids. The Examiner offered legal blanks at $7 per thousand, undercutting the Index which bid $10.50 and previously charged $10. The Statesman-Index had long dominated county printing. The Auditor Savage opposed the Examiner bid suggesting possible conflict of interest with the Index. The county will publish notices in the Examiner Newport Miner and Northport News with a three-paper joint rate of 60 cents a square.
