Chewelah Edges Colville In Low Scoring Sunday Clash

Chewelah defeated Colville 7 to 5 in a Sunday league game on the local grounds. Hydorn pitched effectively for Chewelah after starter Wyatt. Colville rallied briefly in the first inning but was shut down by Hydorn and the local infield.

Exley and Snoddy shine as replacements lead defense

Exley on second and Snoddy on short replaced Joe Rogers and Wernl. Glenn Snoddy showed the crowd how to play the initial sack despite playing first. Wyatt produced a bold dash after Chevelah infield error. Grover Graham and Hydorn coordinated to disrupt the visitors. Sill and Smith contributed sharp fielding throughout.

Pueblo Flood Described By Colville Visitor

Dr Ralph Walmsley an osteopath of Pueblo Colo and Mrs Walmsley witnessed a major flood in Pueblo on the night of June 3 and into the early morning of June 4 They aided in relief after rebuilding began They were guests of Mr and Mrs G W Peddycord and planned a coast trip before returning home

Colville Votes on Water Works Bond to Add Pipeline

Special election set for Wednesday July 20 to authorize $20 000 in bonds for Colville to install 7000 feet of new pipeline from the first to the second reservoir. City officials warn a major fire could outpace current water supply and urge water conservation during repairs. Large crowd attends clearing demonstration near Colville

A demonstration at the Chris McDowell ranch six miles northwest of Colville on Echo road drew over fifty people. Willett Bros. led the event with help from H. J. Plumb, county agent, showing how a Fordson tractor can be converted for stump clearing and pull stumps up to sixteen inches in diameter. Larger stumps could be blown with dynamite and removed by the tractor-donkey engine combo.

Campaign to Eradicate Fan Weeds Nationwide

County Commissioners Clair Hunt Joe Hudspeth and J H Savage launch a countywide drive to eradicate obnoxious weeds led by the fan weed or stinking mustard penny weed. McK Edwards owner of Glen Craig stock farm calls for rapid cleaning of balers and threshers within thirty minutes to prevent spread. County agent H J Plumb warns the weed spreads quickly and starves other plants. Idaho hay is quarantined due to fan weed contamination.

Colville Nine Gears Up For Final Valley League Series

Colville manager John T. Raftis plans two remaining contests in the Valley league era with Marcus hosting one game and the Colville home diamond hosting the other. The schedule may include Rossland Nelson Trail and possibly Northport with Canadian teams drawing strong interest for their fast, high quality play. Raftis resumed practice after a short rest aiming to peak the lineup, though he would not name potential new faces.

Mrs Katherine Noonan and daughter Cecelia of Morristown Minnesota stay with Mr and Mrs John Bresnahan and family. Mrs Noonan and Mr Bresnahan are siblings. Mrs F S Fletcher of Morgaville Kansas arrived late in the week to visit her brother Quinn W McCord.

Murdered man found in river near Inchelium

The body of 55 year old Andrew Matyla, a Northport carpenter, was located on the Columbia River near Inchelium after an eleven week disappearance. Sheriff suspects robbery as over 500 dollars was missing, no inquest held, and Ferry County coroner to determine cause.

Lakes and Streams Draw Many Picnickers

Hot weekend weather sent crowds to Pend Oreille lakes and local creeks where Colville residents enjoyed shade and water outings. Notable partygoers included Mr. and Mrs. A L Rogers, Mrs Wyckoff and daughter Marguerite, plus Misses Mantz Lomell Briscoe Campbell Briscoe and others, along with Dr. Ralph F Goetter and several Rogers and Emery family members.
