County Franchises Sought for Utilities and Legal Actions

Albert C. Wetterer seeks a franchise to build a Marcus telephone system with hearing set for Feb 9. Waterloo Telephone Co. requests highways use in the Columbia River valley. hearing set for Feb 8. Panhandle Investment Co. wins a water franchise for Usk. James Smith sues wife Etta Maud Smith for desertion after their 1902 marriage near Niles Michigan and three daughters. Community property includes 160 acres. A A Stevenson and P M Cartier Van Dissell foreclose a $423.95 lien on 26 Chewelah mining claims. Almstrom Bros. sell Northport mercantile to Conard & Jackson. E J Almstrom noted as longtime Northport merchant. County docket shows 189 civil and criminal, 90 probate cases in 1909. 3281 civil/criminal since statehood.
