Ordnance Board outlines gunner safety rules 1842

The Ordnance Board submits instructions to protect gunners from fatal accidents caused by cannon explosions. The guidance covers cartridge bags, sponges, finger stalls, vent handling, and dry sponging, stressing careful, sober operators and front-of-ale-tree priming. Approved by J. R. Poinsett. Also notes a 200 mile pedestrian feat in New York where Nicholas Low completed the challenge in 200 hours, detailing the mile pacing and performance, with remarks on future possibilities.
