Telegraphed from Washington July 3 1850 the Richmond Whig reports Senate discussion on the Missouri Compromise and a Delaware plan. Senator Wales and Mr Clay clash over resolutions and diplomacy while Mr Bell defends the President. The Washington Union comments on Soule amendment defeat and Southern rights pressure for justice and disunion as rallying cries.
A public gathering in Nashville calls for unity to defend Southern rights against Northern aggression. Speakers urge immediate action on slavery, constitutional terms, and territory, warning that delay will cede vast lands and power to enemies.
