Olive Peterson Barque Burned After Quarantine Arrival
The barque Olive Peterson arrived at quarantine on the 30th from Apalachicola and caught fire around midnight on Wednesday, burning rapidly to destruction. The vessel and cargo are described as a total loss, with about 900 bales of cotton on board insured in Wall Street. The ship, seventeen years old, was towed into nine feet water and scuttled. some hull, lower tackle, and a small portion of cargo may be recovered. The owner is said to be in Newport.
