From crowded cities to fertile hills the poem urges movement toward independence and work. It envisions healthful regions offering plenty and fair pay, arguing that labor can provide freedom from poverty and crime and that the world has room for all to thrive away from city ills.
The account recounts Col Nicholas Perkins and sheriff Theodore Brightwell pursuing Aaron Burr in 1807 from Wakefield Alabama to Fort Wilkinson and Richmond. Burr, guarded with loyalty, endures a perilous march with an able escort, facing creeks, storms, and hostile crowds as Perkins ensures his capture and transport to Washington, while supporters in the South defend Burr’s fate.
He died at three o'clock that day eight years after his Dunbar sword and seven years after Worcester. This final, terrible battle ends with his victory over death as he passes into the serene world where battle sounds are needed no more.
The Baltimore Sun reports a massive ice collapse on the Schuylkill near Fairmount dam in Philadelphia. Women and children were among those stranded as ice floes broke away, many leaping into frigid water or clinging to the dam structure. Rescue boats, medical aid, and heroism from locals and bystanders are highlighted, with several survivors and victims named in detail.
We announce the death of Dr A E Bailey a ardent successful physician and honorable citizen. He died after a bout of consumption abroad and will be buried this afternoon at 34 o clock with military honors as late Captain of the Georgia Hussars. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows will attend. Savannah Georgian 22d inst. Merancoott Cassvatrr-On Wednesday last Mr Hower V Monet of Effingham county while hunting fell and his gun discharged killing him instantly. He was a member of the Irish Jasper Greens in Mexico and was held at Perote. Savannah Republican 22d inst.
