The Bread Thief and the Merciful Magistrate
A starving boy steals a loaf to save his mother from hunger. A magistrate exposes his kindness when he recognizes the lad, learns the truth, and relieves the mother and boy of distress. The tale ends with the magistrate pledging care and employment, condemning no one and condemning deceit in beggars.
