Speech by Mr Stephens Attacks President Fillmore
In Washington on August 9 Mr Stephens denounced President Fillmore and his policy as ultra State Rights and dangerous to liberty. He warned the South would not submit and urged dissolution if the North persisted in division of territories. He said disunion held no terrors and urged distilling as a remedy. The speech was described as strongly Southern.
