In 1427 Stamati of Candia plotted theft of the Treasury of St Mary in Venice, hiding in the cathedral to plunder its riches. After six nights he planned to flee but was betrayed by friend Gerin, arrested, and the treasure recovered. He was condemned to be hung between St Mark’s columns. A Savannah clergyman, Rev James Jackson, killed himself after traveling for health. his departure caused community shock.
