Two Derby State Traffic Fatalities Reported
Two people died in Nebraska traffic accidents over the weekend, lifting the year’s highway fatality toll to 422. Sheryl S. Opp, 18, of Wood River, was killed when her car was struck by a Union Pacific freight train at a county road crossing west of Wood River. The train engineer was Donald L. Collins, 44, of North Platte.

Steer leads police in Omaha chase and capture
A 1000 pound steer being unloaded at a mobile home site sparked a chase through Omaha. Police, sheriff's officers and humane workers pursued the animal, which knocked down a pen and fled toward I-80 before being corralled at a vacant lot as firepower and a tractor-trailer were readied for capture. The steer was destined for end of week at a local facility.
