In Sutherland Nebraska Charles Erwin Simants, described by neighbors as a “loser,” emerged from hiding and was arrested for the rifle killings of six members of a neighboring family, including three children. Authorities said no motive or confession was established after interrogating the two year old suspect. his mother said he confessed, a claim authorities denied.
Dale Bender Humphrey was sentenced in Platte County District Court for possession of amphetamines. He received two years probation, must complete a drug counseling program, and will serve 16 weekends in Platte County jail. Charles Niemeyer Humphrey faces up to 60 days in the Nebraska Penal Complex for an evaluation with sentencing later. charged with felony burglary breaking and entering automobile and misdemeanor possession of marijuana second offense. Dan Mierau Contnuus pled guilty to possession and manufacturing marijuana. a presentence investigation will be done. The record also notes a new accident report and an incident involving Simants with a lengthy police search and a family tragedy in Kellie home. The Kellies were shot Saturday. neighbors watched a TV movie about a 1966 university shooting, interrupting to warn residents.
