Quotations show cattle at 5700 head with tight slaughter class, hogs 5500 with midweek activity, barrows and gilts steady to 25 higher then 25 to 50 lower at closing. Weight 200 to 290 lb ranges listed, sows steady to 35.50, smaller hogs and light weights noted, sheep absent. Monday estimates: cattle 6500 hogs 8000 sheep 100.
Kansas City AP reports Verno L. Rohrscheib of Fairmount Illinois and Ronald D. Schwerdtfeger of Capron Oklahoma were named Star Farmer of America and Star Agribusinessman of America at the FFA convention attended by about 15 000. Each received 1000 dollars. Other regional finalists were listed. Mrs Larry Dubas of Fullerton Nebraska passed a parliamentary membership exam after completing a five hour Grand Island course.
Family gathering at Stromsburg hall drew relatives including Mr. and Mrs. R W Johnson Mrs Stella Hob bensleiken and Leonard Johnson. Distance guests were Edna Milne from Long Beach Axel Rudeen from Golden and Ira Kerr from Omaha. Other callers visited Wisner Columbus Genoa and Omaha areas with multiple family members. A birthday for Renee Baumgart and two anniversaries were celebrated with a family supper hosted by the Fricke household.
State Sen. David Stahmer of Omaha walked out of a subcommittee hearing citing a 1961 incident involving a group whose attorney, Einar Viren, represented the subcommittee. Stahmer accused Viren of past bribery attempts, while Viren denied any such link and urged specifics.
The Oregon and Florida based DAVID CITY American Legion Auxiliary Kregger Unit 125 lists seventeen members recognized this month for 50 years of service. Notable names include Dorothy Wertman Emma Martin Willa Stafford Flora Hall Bernice Hinds Pauline Bean Viasta Mize Olga Fox Merl Stead Anna Ball Hazel Youngberg and local new joins Ann Youngberg Gustave Youngberg Maxine Martin Martin Mazourek with senior members.
