Warden and inmates seek out of court deal on black awareness club
U S District Judge Dennis Denney gave Nebraska State Penitentiary warden Charl Wolff and 94 inmates two weeks to settle a dispute over forming a black awareness club. The petition, led by Harold Huffman, claims discrimination due to denial of the club. Wolff says existing programs meet cultural needs and opposes the club citing admin concerns. Chambers supports the club and white access, urging a settlement. The parties planned talks after the session to withdraw the suit if an agreement is reached.

Warner opposes limited term for Nebraska lawmakers
State Sen. Jerome Warner of Waverly argues that restricting term lengths would reduce representation and force many senators to abandon public service. He notes that under a term limit about 50 percent of members would know their acts wouldn’t be subject to long term voter approval. Warner responds to challenger Lonnie Hibler’s proposal for two terms.
