Top of the Month TV venture flops with AT&T backing
A nine half hour musical comedy series titled Top of the Month debuts with Tony Randall leading a weak cast. AT&T and Bell System partners funded the project to fill local prime time slots with minimal ads. The October to June themed episodes faltered in writing and singing, and the opening show failed to wow on about 10 stations. An AT&T spokesman cited scheduling conflicts as a factor in the disappointing premiere.
