Discover Columbus Days crowns two local leaders

Lois Behlen and J O Peck were proclaimed Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand II at the Grand Ball concluding Discover Columbus Days. The four day festival at Agricultural Park featured the Eddy Haddad Orchestra, a parade, dances, and a wide array of community events highlighting Columbus youth and local service.

Federation votes to continue suit against Grasrocks Dam

The Nebraska Wildlife Federation voted to press on with a lawsuit to block the Grasrocks Dam project in Wheatland Wyoming despite signs Nebraska may withdraw. Federation officials cited water depletion fears for Nebraska rivers and argued the plant is larger than needed while critics accuse Basin Electric Power Cooperative of neglecting water-saving options.

Freeze warning issued as cold front hits Nebraska

A fast moving cold front brought snow and thundershowers across Nebraska with gusty northwesterly winds. Forecasters issued a freeze warning for the state tonight as temperatures fall from the 20s to near 30 in eastern areas. Partly cloudy skies and milder readings are expected Tuesday across western and southeastern regions.

Neb Job Service office sees September drop in applicants

The active job applicant file in Columbus serving Boone and surrounding counties fell to 578 in September, down 69 from August. The office processed 250 new applications, including 144 women and 30 veterans, with 166 employers listing 241 openings and 376 referrals leading to 147 placements. Tim Yoboris will speak at Albion City Hall on October 19 at 10 a.m. about Job Service services. Daily job openings broadcasts air at 1:35 a.m. on KTTT and 11:47 a.m. on KJSK.

Discover Columbus Days Parade Winners and Honors

Brisk morning did not dampen crowds viewing Columbus Nebraska Discover Columbus Days parade. Clowns floats horses bands and novelty entries entertained while awards were given in floats horse clubs bands and novelty divisions with winners from North Park PTA Columbus High School and McDonalds Restaurant among others. Osmond Community Club received Mayor's Trophy for outstanding float from outside Columbus.

Soyuz 25 aborts mission after docking problem
