Farmers turned into Columbus rural fire-fighters unit
In Columbus a small yet mighty rural fire division of 16 volunteers spreads across the area. Monitors were added to each home this year, replacing a poor telephone system. Originated by the late Burley Grimes, leadership is now Del Greenlee. The group trains monthly, performs first aid, and can take initial action to curb fires and save equipment, livestock, and property before city units arrive. The rural board includes Gilbert Loseke as president and Norman Nelson as first vice president among others.
