Nell Shaffer Retires After 49 Years In Nursing
Nell Shaffer retires after nearly five decades of nursing in Columbus Nebraska. Born in Springfield Nebraska she trained at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in 1928 and worked at several local hospitals before joining the Columbus Clinic and later Columbus Community Hospital. She earned a National Registered Nurses certificate in 1951 and helped advance X ray techniques. A community leader she served as Red Cross chapter chair and Platte County Nurses Club president. She looks forward to travel and family time while praising changes in nursing and endorsing mandatory retirement.

UNL professor predicts heavier snow this winter
UNL geography assistant professor Arthur Tiuglas forecast more snow and colder than normal temperatures for Nebraska and the northern states. He said the cold spell will extend from west of the Continental Divide to the East Coast with Nebraska Iowa and the Dakotas receiving slightly above normal snowfall. He bases his long range outlook on Pacific Ocean surface temperatures and spoke at a Omaha conference.
