Livestock quotations from Omaha Nebraska show hogs higher across weights with 190-200 lb at 30.25 to 30.50 and 240-260 lb at 29.25 to 29.75. Cattle with small slaughter steer and heifer volume up to 35.00 for 1,049 lb steers and 32.75-34.50 for 975-1,200 lb cattle. cows steady to 25 higher, utility and commercial cows 24.50-26.00, canners 22.00-24.60. Slaughter lambs steady, ewes scarce, prime wool and bulk 27.00-28.00. Estimated Friday receipts: cattle 800, calves 5 percent, hogs 5,000, sheep 100.

Nebraska Leads in Interstate Completion Rates

Lincoln Nebraska state officials report that Nebraska ranks highest among neighboring states and just behind the national average in interstate completion. As of September 30 the state had about 12.7 percent of its 480 miles unsized to standard and 9.9 percent not yet open to traffic. Wyoming trails with larger unfinished portions. The national figure shows roughly 80 percent open while 68 percent meet full federal standards.

Kearney State to Cut 24 Faculty Positions

Kearney State College will reduce teaching staff by 24 positions in fall 1973 due to enrollment drop from about 5,200 to 5,000 students. Dr. Brendan J. MacDonald says 12 posts will be eliminated while 11 are vacant due to resignations, retirements, or leaves. Deans and department heads will report data as decisions are taken by Dec. 15.

Albion Music Club Plans Do It Yourself Caroling

The Albion Music Club part of the Womens Club held a Monday meeting with co hosts Mrs Ora Mutchinson and Mrs Wallace Nelson. The program featured readings songs and talks on arts and handcrafts. Mrs Richard Bartel joined as a new member and plans for caroling on December 18 were announced along with a Christmas program and gift exchange at Mrs William Mundachink's home.

Bloodmobile Falls Short of Quota in Rising City

Red Cross Bloodmobile visit in Rising City on Monday gathered 91 donors with four rejections, short of the 100 unit quota by 9. Mrs Clarabelle Hosher earned one gallon, Grace Steiner reached seven gallons, twelve first-time donors were recorded, and county chair Miss And Birkel noted the shortfall amid a political aside on minority presidents.

Platte County 4-H wind-up party awards presented

About 325 4-H members attended Platte County’s annual wind up party at Agricultural Park Exhibit Hall.
