Lindsay families host visitors in Nebraska area

Carpenter to Speak at University of Dubuque

Cmdr. Malcolm Scott Carpenter, one of the original seven astronauts, will speak at the University of Dubuque on Wednesday. He serves as assistant for aquanaut operations with the deep submergence systems project of the U.S. Navy and is married to Rene Louise Price of Clinton. Carpenter flew aboard the second manned orbital flight and later joined SEALAB II experiments.

Services held for Mrs Hooker at Ainsworth church

Leigh Fusvral services were held for Mrs Beralea Hooker at 10 a m on Wednesday in the Ainsworth Congregational Church of Christ with Rev David Harris officiating. Burial followed in Ainsworth Cemetery. She died suddenly Nov 22 at her sister's home in Yutan Nebraska leaving three children survived by husband Dr H Ki Hooker who died in July 1968. He was Leigh postmaster 1921 1934.

Bellwood Women Hold Thanksgiving Meeting and Service

The Bellwood Women's Society of Christian Service met at the Methodist Church Social Hall Tuesday evening with President Lola Hicks. A Candle Light Service is planned for December 23 at the church open to the public. Guests and families from Gothenburg Lincoln Lincoln Omaha and Wichita visited for Thanksgiving.

Sew-Chat Club met with Mrs. Ed Leseke on Monday afternoon as hostesses provided refreshments. Shelby man earns award for corn yield record

Shelby resident George Romshek receives a special award from Funk's G-Hybrids producers Harold and Gerald Schmit for a 166.30 bushel corn yield entered in Project 200 national records. Romshek grew 130 acres using Funk's G-444i, planted May 13 in 28 inch rows, with 24 800 plants per acre, applying 20 pounds nitrogen and 23 pounds phosphate, plus herbicide and insecticide. Harvest occurred October 10 at 23.6 percent moisture under Project 200 rules requiring two harvested acres.
