Wrestler Bentz barred from competition by school board

Lewis Central High School senior Robert Bentz, 18, faces automatic ineligibility after the board voted 3 to 2 to ban him from further athletic participation for the final year. Bentz, a 135 pound wrestler, appealed but was not granted relief and may lose potential college scholarship chances. The vote followed history of a prior case where a similar athlete, Duane Kjeldgaard, competed and later earned a scholarship. Principal and coach comments cited Bentz’s married status and dedication as factors.
