Swine losses are higher as snow fouled barns with one hog feeder noting unprecedented barn snow. He warns the monetary toll could be astronomical if conditions worsen.
U N Secretary General Kurt Waldheim flies to Cairo to brief President Anwar Sadat on Syrian and Israeli positions regarding extending the Golan Heights peacekeeping mandate. He plans to meet Sadat after telecast remarks and later visit Damascus to convey Israel's stance.

Central Technical Community College Area board of governors approved the bid to install a food service facility at Platte College. B & D Construction Company of Columbus won with a 46,502 dollar bid. Work begins December 10 and lasts about 60 working days with a snack bar to serve students and space for seminars. The facility should open in April 1976. The board also approved a 12,160 dollar bid by Haba Construction to level 36 acres of campus agricultural land, increasing irrigable land to 160 acres. Funds come from CTCC farming activities.

President Francisco da Costa Gomes imposed a state of emergency in Portugal and placed troops on war alert after leftist paratroops seized four major air bases and key media outlets. Rebels demanded a far left government while unions called a general strike and armed civilians were reportedly being armed.
Revolt at Rikers Island prison spans 17 hours with 1,200 inmates seizing five blocks and taking five guards hostage. By morning most inmates returned to cells and all hostages were released. About 300 corrections officers walked off for an hour and a half demanding amnesty for inmates. Mayor Beame to meet union leaders.
United Press International reports an additional one to three inches of snow for Nebraska as a Wyoming low tracks toward north central Texas. Travel advisories span southwestern and central Nebraska with subfreezing temperatures through Wednesday, followed by partly cloudy skies and a warming trend into Saturday with highs near 50 in some areas.
District Judge C Thomas White dismissed a Butler County gag order in the Perrie C Shonka murder case. He threw out the prohibition on reporting statements or evidence from the preliminary hearing and narrowed restrictions on mentions of prior criminal records and statements. The ruling cites Blackmun’s prior restraint considerations and follows an appeal by Alan Peterson representing several newspapers. Mrs Shonka, 34, Rising City, is charged with first degree murder in her husband Josephs death. Her son Jota Calder, 14, was present at a hearing where she was ordered to stand trial in district court.
