Eighteen enter Columbus Junior Miss contest at Columbus High

Eighteen young ladies compete Sunday in the Columbus Junior Miss Pageant at Columbus Senior High. An evening show starts at 7 30 with Mrs Jaycees of Columbus sponsoring.

Civil Defense Adopts Channel 5 CB for Emergencies

At a Wednesday Civil Defense meeting the switch to Channel 5 on Citizens Band radio as the main emergency communications channel was approved effective November 21. Channel 14 remains available for regular use while Channel 9 is monitored by hospital and city police. Myrle Hadcock thanked CB operators for cooperation.

Snow Mishap Fatal to Lindsay Boy

A Lindsay boy, Michael Preuss, died Friday after a snowmobile collision with a wire at the Lindsay football field around 3:30 p.m. He was riding with his uncle who broke an arm. the uncle’s name was not released. Local sheriff said injuries were internal.

Behlen Community Hospital seeks 2.24 million in Hill-Burton funds

Behlen Community Hospital board plans to apply for 2,240,000 in federal Hill-Burton loan subsidy funds to expand and renovate the Columbus facility. Endorsements from state health agencies and HEW are pending, with NNHP C backing the concept. The plan adds beds from 71 to 81 and centralizes admin functions in the former Lutheran Hospital, plus parking and a maintenance building. Columbus council approves vacating part of 31st Avenue for expansion.

Eagle Scout Michale Gutzmer to be honored at St Bonaventure

Michale Gutzmer of Boy Scout Troop 219 Columbus will receive the Eagle Scout award in a 2 30 p m Sunday ceremony at St Bonaventure Church Social Hall. Dr Bruce Cowgill of Silver Creek is guest speaker. public invited. Gutzmer, son of Mr and Mrs Paul Gutzmer, born April 20 1957, joined Cub Pack 119 in 1966, earned Webelo, Troop 219 in 1968, and advanced through Star Life to Eagle. He has held troop offices, earned merit badges, served in Order of the Arrow, and completed an Eagle service project with Troop 115. He is a 1975 Columbus High School graduate and plans a conservation career.
