Two Nebraska 4-H youths from Dodge and Bar Nston receive Outstanding Young Pork Producer honors at the 13th Nebraska Park Producers and Porkettes banquet in Columbus. Daniel Meiergerd of Aloys Livestock Club, Curtis, earns 300 from Columbus’s Glen Manufacturing. Argo Argo, Bar Nston, is runner up with a 250 prize from Moorman Manufacturing. Meiergerd, a first year student at the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture, started with 4-H in 1965 and runs a large farrow-to-finish operation. Argo is senior at Barneston High School and plans agriscience study at UNL before farming with his father.

Six Lakeview FFA members and two advisors attended the National FFA Convention in Kansas City Missouri October 16 to 18 under the theme A Chance For Growth. They took part in public speaking and watched the Stars Over America pageant while observing officer elections and meetings. The trip included sights of the Gi plant American Royal Livestock Show and the 40 horse Schlitz team. Ernie Mueller of Monroe received a club gift and a scrapbook of awards at a Wednesday gathering marking 15 years as leader of the Lucky Seven livestock 4H Club. The scrapbook highlighted 76 grand championships and 59 reserve championships at Platte County Fairs, plus other livestock show awards. Mueller credited members' effort and 4-H ideals for the success, noting his goal was to help youths gain knowledge and perseverance. He led the club from 1959 to 1973.

His Holstein herd averaged 532 lbs over five years, earning a fourth five year bar on a silver plaque. Ten dairymen received first silver bars for 10 years, while others earned second bars for 15 years and 20 years for sustained butterfat production across multiple farms and regions.
