Builder anxious to test mini aircraft by Deb Gondringer
Richard Lepka, a Marine Corps veteran and licensed pilot, built the Tennie Weenie Two in scattered spaces over five years with help from Jim Kotitz and the Columbus Aircraft Maintenance Corporation. The 359 pound single seat craft awaits FAA inspection and a test flight after delays from moving between California and Columbus. Patricia Korn, 24, who escaped five times from jails, met with her attorney to arrange surrender.

Police clashed with about 5000 anti Shah demonstrators near the White House as President Carter welcomed Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. Tear gas and mounted officers were used and both police and demonstrators suffered injuries. The scene unfolded on the Ellipse behind the White House while Carter and the shah remained on the lawn.

Columbus City Schools Board approves Lincoln School bid and more
Columbus City Schools Board of Education accepted a $15.60 per square foot bid from Platte County Historical Society for Lincoln School property while rejecting a higher Hansen Enterprises offer. The board also approved condemning adjacent property, hired an assistant wrestling coach, and moved to meet the Rehabilitation Act of 1972 with accessibility upgrades. A plan to census the district’s students was set, including a switch to an electronic data system via ESU 10. votes included dissent from Ball on dissenting census and condemnation items. Additional actions included purchasing a 197% half ton pickup from Columbus Motors and buying chalkboard and tackboard for Duncan School at $1,250.

Platte College's Developmental Learning Center offers diagnostic tests and a 32 hour weekly in center program to help returning students and those with reading or exam difficulties. Central features include individualized instruction, fast feedback, and four remedial options: basic study skills, grammar and spelling, developmental writing, and reading improvement.
