Platte voters defeat all amendments and the LB 772 state aid referendum. Amendment One changed legislative convening date. voters rejected 3291 to 3018. Amendment Two aimed to add three non voting student reps. totals 4277 to 3791. Amendment Three altered submission language to governor. 3069 to 3568. Referendum 300, LB 772, on state aid to schools, failed 2549 to 5477.

Tingehoff and Fischer to get sportsman honors

UMAELA Nebraska CAPA 7th draft choice and a walk on in the NFL will receive this year's Sportsman of the Year awards from the Omaha Sportscasters Association. Pat Fischer of the Washington Redskins and Micky Tingelhoff of the Minnesota Vikings will be honored at the tidwinter banquet January 16 at loony Park. the first double award by the association. Both Nebraskans are University of Nebraska alumni.

Democrats win Senate control in 11th straight election

AP reports Democrats gain at least four Republican seats, securing 62 to 36 in the 54th Congress.
