Rising City Woman Charged in Slaying
A Rising City woman, Perrie Calder Shonka, was charged with murder after her husband John G. Tomek was shot at their home early Saturday. He died at Butler County Hospital around 3 a.m. Deputies seized a .25 caliber pistol. autopsy results pending. She was jailed in David City. Previously faced Platte County charges in 1974.

Lawmakers in no rush to nix plan
In Lincoln Nebraska lawmakers balked at acting quickly on a recommendation to reject Governor Exon's plan for $10.4 million in immediate funding. The unicameral Appropriations Committee urged gutting SBГ and adopting Sen Bereuter's plan to shift funds from construction and revenue sharing into the general fund. Bereuter argued his plan would not delay projects and would yield $5.5 million to keep the treasury in the black.

Two Toledo men charged with marijuana possession
Daniel Hahn age 24 and David Clauson age 18 from Toledo were arrested Friday morning two miles east of town along the Union Pacific Railroad right of way. They face possession of marijuana charges and are held on a $500 bond in Colfax County jail after several bags were found in their car. Sheriff Richard Kruse and Deputy Wayne Steele led the arrest.
