OMATIA Neb District Court Judge John Burke sentenced 65 year old Lewis Sutton to one year probation for shooting 33 year old jockey Rogoberto Bermudez. Sutton, working as a broom at Ak-Sar-Ben, was convicted by a jury in September after the shooting last summer.

Date set for Pope resentencing in Nebraska murder case

Nov. 16 tentatively fixed to resentence Duane Pope from death to life. Pope, 28, will be brought from Leavenworth, Kansas, to appear before District Judge John Kuns. He seeks consecutive life terms. three earlier death sentences have been vacated by the Supreme Court ruling. Pope’s lawyers plan to attend, with former Gov. Crosby among court-appointed attorneys.
