United Press International reports 26 primaries completed leaving six contests, with Montana Rhode Island and South Dakota headlining next week. The three super Tuesday races New Jersey Ohio California will deliver most delegates to factions, as Ford Reagan Carter and Udall jockey for advantage.
The Senate Finance Committee voted to extend all individual tax cuts into next year to prevent a June withholding increase. Other items include a potential JFK assassination review, UN mandate extension in Syria, and a Lebanon gunmen raid.
A Nebraska judge examines a 1905 statute banning any sport that might disturb peace before noon, tracing changes to Memorial Day dating and listing 39 sports from fat men's races to golf and polo. Chicago bans under eighteens from viewing excessively violent films under a city ordinance. The measure aims to shield minors from graphic content and will be enforced by local officials.
President Ford will sign the Peaceful Nuclear Explosion Treaty with the Soviet Union in a Washington Moscow ceremony at 10 a.m. EDT. Brezhnev will sign in Moscow. the pact bans explosions above 150 kilotons and allows on site inspections for civil engineering uses.
Dwaine Spike of Silver Creek was arraigned today in Platte County Court on escape charges. State patrol and Platte County Sheriff's office arrested him at his parents’ home east of Silver Creek after he failed to return from a May 5 work release. He had been sentenced April 23 by Judge C. T. White to six months in county jail for wrongful use of an automobile. Bond was set at 50000 though he remains incarcerated. Work release privileges will be held on June 1.
Guard units from Omaha Wahoo Columbus Norfolk Wayne and O Neill depart for Fort Carson Colorado for a two week annual field training period. An advance detachment moved ahead to establish base camp ahead of 700 soldiers and civilians arriving Sunday May 30 with main body following Sunday June 13.
Negotiations between Columbus City School teachers and the Board of Education for 1976-77 remain deadlocked against four points: base salary, group insurance bids, graduate hours policy, and workmen’s compensation. Each side has appointed a fact finder and plans to meet with a third member to review proposals and seek an acceptable agreement.
