Columbus City Schools relocated about 175 students after Lincoln School closed. Most of the Lincoln area was split between Highland Park and Emerson. west of List Avenue goes to Highland Park, east to Emerson. Reassignments aim to avoid overcrowding while shifting resource rooms to North Park. Visitation day helped students meet new teachers and peers before fall transfers.

Landmark moved but depot remains in David City
A Union Pacific freight train passed the old U P depot in David City at 3 35 P M Wednesday as Scrib's House Moving Service shifted the 1900 depot two and a half blocks for conversion into a duplex. Purchaser Paul Montag plans to keep the exterior unchanged and preserve the depot sign while history notes this marks the 100th year of UP service to David City.

No funnel sightings near city in tornado warning
Local Civil Defense officials said there were no tornado sightings Thursday evening in the Columbus area despite a Weather Bureau warning for southern Platte County. The alert siren was not sounded as spotters observed no funnels. Nebraska forecast called for scattered storms and mostly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
