In Oslo Kissinger told 14 NATO foreign ministers the United States is ready to discuss peace with the Soviet Union if Moscow agrees, even as he blamed Moscow for East West tensions. Summerlike Nebraska Weather Persists Into Friday

Explosion destroys Montano home in Columbus incident
An explosion believed propane caused the Robert Montano residence at 1355 46th Avenue on Columbus west edge destroyed the home. Mrs Montano and five children were inside but unharmed. Montano, an electrical engineer at R W Beck and Associates, was away. Firefighters found debris on the ground. three fire trucks stood at the scene with little fire after the blast. The propane supply had been depleted Wednesday afternoon but the cause remains under investigation.

Graduation Set for NU Medical Center Graduates
Ronald S. Walters son of Richard and Mrs Walters of Columbus will receive the Doctor of Medicine degree at University of Nebraska Medical Center ceremonies in Omaha. William Bomberger son of Alice Bomberger of Columbus earns a Bachelor of Science in physician assistant studies. Richard Hoth son of Herman Hoth and Edward Minarik son of Irvin Kurtenbach receive pharmacy degrees, Hoth planning to open his own Columbus drug store. City Council denies rezoning for apartment complex plan
Columbus city leaders unanimously rejected a petition to rezone land between 18th Avenue and Pershing Road north of Highway 30 for an apartment project. Lincoln promoter Joseph Augustine and attorney Cleo Robak outlined 72 units, 150 parking spaces, and buffer areas but landowners argued density and traffic would worsen with access via Pershing Road. The vote followed opposition from 42 landowners cited by attorney Bill Grant, and the council also discussed a bike hike trail, street work bids, police staffing, and other city business.

GNP growth accelerates to eight point five percent in Q1
The real Gross National Product rose 8.5 percent in the first quarter, revised up from a preliminary estimate. Corporate profits after taxes climbed 5.5 percent to 84.3 billion dollars annual rate, the highest since 1974. GNP real value hit 1.241 trillion, with 7.5 percent rise previously estimated.
